Last night, the SoHo Alliance held its promised meeting with the developers of the luxury boutique hotel planned for Sixth Avenue and Grand Street, the former site of the beloved Moondance Diner—hence the unofficial nickname of "Moondance Hotel" when the actual working title is the 27 Grand Street Hotel. The purpose of the meeting was to calm locals about the three bars planned for the property, but in the process, Eater got a brief look at the 16-story, 114-room design, and they report:
"Much of the concern over the evening stemmed from the curious design of the hotel, which calls for an outdoor plaza approximately two floors up with the hotel resting atop it. Despite an eight-foot wall surrounding the space, the idea of an outdoor gathering spot was anathema to most of the SoHo alliance members.
In a rather bold move, the developers' liquor license lawyer began the meeting by saying, "We all know the hotel is going to be built, we all know the hotel is going to get a liquor license," so if the community board manages to derail the hotel's destiny, that plaza would make one sweet miniature golf course, no?
