Blythe Danner Joins Cast of “Nice Work If You Can Get It”

Blythe Danner will join the cast of the musical comedy “Nice Work If You Can Get It” for 12 weeks, beginning Dec. 18.

Danner will take over the role of Millicent Winter, the mother of Matthew Broderick’s character Jimmy Winter. The role is currently played by Estelle Parsons, who plays her final performance on Dec. 16.

Danner, the mother of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, is a Tony-winning entertainer (1970’s “Butterflies Are Free) who is familiar to TV audiences for her work on “Huff” and “Will & Grace.”

She received Tony nominations in 1980 for the original Broadway production of Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal”; in 1988 for a revival of “A Streetcar Named Desire”; and in 2001 for a revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Follies.”

“Nice Work If You Can Get It” features a hit parade of songs by George and Ira Gershwin, including “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “’S Wonderful” and “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off.” It stars Broderick and Kelli O’Hara, and plays at Broadway’s Imperial Theatre.

Danner’s “Nice Work...” stint continues through March 10.
