19 New NYC Restaurants Earn Coveted Michelin Star Ranking: See Full 2022 List

Michelin Guide stars were awarded Thursday in a ceremony at Hudson Yards — with plenty of newcomers to check out

Valencian Chef Danny Lledó has won so many awards, including international, for his paella.  In this episode of Food Fare, NBC4’s Eun Yang learns what it takes to cook perfect paella that’s featured at Chef Danny’s MICHELIN-starred restaurant, Xiquet.

More than a dozen New York City restaurants earned a coveted Michelin star for the first time in 2022, joining the globally renowned guide with a distinction many chefs can only dream of some day attaining.

The star rankings and other distinctions were announced Thursday at a ceremony at Hudson Yards. In all, there are 19 newcomers added to the esteemed list, two of which earned two stars in their first appearance in the Michelin Guide: Al Coro, in Chelsea, and SAGA, in the Financial District.

Michelin, the esteemed industry ranker since 1955, bestows one to three stars on eateries -- and getting even one can change a restaurant's fate. One star generally means high-quality cooking -- as in, worth a stop -- while two stars mean they're worth detouring for and three stars, well, that's exceptional cuisine and "worth a special journey," Michelin says.

There were also 11 restaurants that lost their one-star ranking — perhaps most notably Peter Luger, the famous steakhouse that was torched by a food critic back in 2019.

Here's a breakdown by borough (as well as Westchester County) of each restaurant, along with how many stars each received:
