Islanders Can't Stop Kovalchuk, Get Thrashed

Ilya Kovalchuk's second-period goal helped the Atlanta Thrashers snap a five-game losing streak with a 5-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night.

Bryan Little, Eric Boulton, Eric Perrin and Chris Thorburn also scored for Atlanta, which has beaten the Islanders twice this season. Kovalchuk also had two assists.

Johan Hedberg stopped 28 shots for his first win since the Thrashers' last victory over Toronto on Nov. 25.

Bill Guerin had New York's only goal. The Islanders have lost four of their last five games.

Joey MacDonald, starting his 16th consecutive game in goal for the Islanders, made 12 saves.
