Woman Pulled from Rubble 12 Hours After Quake Hits Italy

A 65-year-old woman was rescued after being trapped for 12 hours in the rubble of her kitchen in an Italian town hit by a deadly earthquake on Tuesday. A piece of furniture saved her from being crushed by the wreckage, firefighters told Sky TG24 TV, and she was taken to the hospital on Wednesday. The 5.8 magnitude quake left 16 dead and 14,000 people homeless in the Emilia Romagna region north of Bologna. Some 350 people were also injured. The woman’s home had been damaged by a 6.0 magnitude quake on May 20 and had been vacant since. She had just gone back inside Tuesday morning to retrieve some clothes when the second temblor knocked down the building, firefighters said.
