This year, recent deaths of stars Whitney Houston, MCA, Donna Summer and Robin Gibb added a melancholic edge to the broadcast. Houston's daughter, Bobbi-Kristina, accepted the Billboard Millennium Award on her mother's behalf, offering words to her fans: "I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all."
