Suspect in 2 Copenhagen Attacks Killed by Police

Danish police said early Sunday that they shot and killed a man who they believe killed two people and injured several others in two separate shootings in Copenhagen currently being investigated as terror attacks, NBC News reported. Police said they were investigating the attacks at 5 a.m. Sunday local time (11 p.m. Saturday Eastern time) when the man opened fire on police. Police returned fire, killing him. The preliminary police investigation indicated the suspect was the only shooter in both attacks. The first attack, which left one dead and three police officers wounded, occurred at 4 p.m. Saturday local time (10 a.m. ET) at a cafe hosting a freedom of speech event by Lars Vilks, a 68-year-old Swedish cartoonist who has received death threats for his drawings of the Prophet Mohammad. Denmark's prime minister called the initial shooting a "terrorist attack." The second attack occurred early Sunday morning at a synagogue; three people were shot, including two police officers and a civilian who later died. The gunman escaped in both attacks.
