Woman, 21, Found Dead in NYC Basement With Neck Trauma: NYPD

A 21-year-old woman was found dead with trauma to her neck in a basement apartment of a Bronx building, the NYPD said.

The woman, identified by police as Indira Ramirez-Rivera, was found unconscious and unresponsive at a building on Nelson Avenue in Morris Heights around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.

Ramirez-Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD said. 

Law enforcement sources said the woman's boyfriend turned himself into police after she was found. Police later identified him as 23-year-old Angel Esteban Feliz-Rodriguez of the Bronx. He is charged with murder and manslaughter.

Feliz-Rodriguez admitted to killing Ramirez-Rivera, according to a criminal complaint, telling police he choked her after they got into an argument.

Attorney information for Feliz-Rodriguez wasn't immediately clear. 

The Medical Examiner will determine how Ramirez-Rivera died. An investigation is ongoing.
