A red-tailed hawk who starred in a New York City webcam has been captured for treatment of her badly injured leg.
The New York Times reports that the hawk, named Violet, was captured Saturday in Washington Square Park.
The Times says Long Island-based raptor rehabilitators Robert and Cathy Horvath netted Violet on the ground after she had flown down from a tree to retrieve her prey. They are taking her to a veterinarian to determine the best treatment for her leg.
The bird's right leg is swollen around a metal wildlife band. The Times says it may have to be amputated.
Violet and her mate Bobby built a nest on a ledge outside the office of New York University President John Sexton. Their one hatchling was named Pip.
