The 19-year-old New York man who vanished from his home in Putnam County Thursday was safely rescued after a police helicopter crew spotted him in a wooded area about half a mile northwest of his home, authorities said.
More than 80 law enforcement personnel from New York and Connecticut were involved in the search for Diego Alberto Salazar, who has been described as severely autistic, after he disappeared from his home in Brewster heights Thursday afternoon.
Salazar is unable to communicate verbally and also suffers from other health issues, his family told authorities.
Police used tracking dogs, as well as helicopters and dozens of officers, volunteers and first responders on foot to find him. Police said Salazar was conscious and did not appear to be hurt when he was found.
He was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
