A man has turned himself in to police in connection with a violent sex attack inside a Brooklyn apartment building early on New Year's Day.
Manuel Almonte, 30, of Brooklyn, was charged with attempted rape, burglary, sex abuse, forcible touching, assault and harassment, the NYPD said Wednesday.
Cops had said a suspect followed a 26-year-old woman into her Williamsburg building, cornering her on a first-floor landing of the complex near South Second and Havemeyer streets around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
He punched her in the back of the head, got on top of her and tried to rape her, police said.
The woman resisted, and the suspect ran off on South Second Street, police said.
Almonte's attorney information wasn't immediately available Wednesday.
