Rikers Island Guard Sentenced to 41 Months in Prison for Smuggling, Selling Drugs

A former correction officer has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for smuggling and selling drugs at Rikers Island.

Austin Romain received the sentence on Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.

The 33-year-old was convicted of smuggling marijuana, tobacco and other items to inmates who sold it to other prisoners.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara called Romain a "jailhouse drug dealer." Investigators determined that Romain was paid $11,000 in bribes.
