Long Island Man Charged in Heroin Death of Star High School Wrestler

A Long Island man is facing federal charges linked to the heroin death of a 20-year-old former wrestling champion.

Richard Jacobellis of Ridge was arrested Wednesday and charged in a three-count indictment. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney to comment on the charges.

Prosecutors say Jacobellis sold $100 of heroin to Nicholas Weber in May 2016. Weber was a former Suffolk County high school wrestling champion. Authorities say Weber died of an overdose shortly after using the heroin.

Prosecutors also say Jacobellis continued to sell heroin as recently as last month.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
