A suspected carjacker got out of a vehicle on the Garden State Parkway early Sunday and ran into traffic, where he was struck and killed, New Jersey state police said.
The man was driving a Nissan Maxima that had been carjacked in Elizabeth, police said.
He was driving northbound on the Garden State Parkway, then pulled over at mile marker 144 in Irvington and ran into the southbound lanes, police said.
A Subaru Forester struck him and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The woman driving the Forester suffered minor injuries, police said. She wasn't charged.
The southbound lanes were closed for hours overnight.
