Man Puts Woman in Bear Hug, Then Sexually Assaults Her Near NYU Dormitories: Police

Police are searching for the man who grabbed and then sexually assaulted a woman near the New York University dorms in Greenwich Village. 

The 20-year-old woman was walking alone near the busy intersection of 10th Street and Fifth Avenue, a few blocks north of Washington Square Park, when the suspect approached her around 4 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the man put her in a bear hug and wouldn't let go. He then sexually assaulted her and tried to rape her. 

It wasn’t immediately clear how she got away, but the suspect took off. Police released surveillance video of him walking down a street.

The woman refused medical attention at the scene but was later brought to an area hospital for observation.

Police believe the man is 25 to 35 years old.
