NY Thruway Lanes Reopen After Excavator Falls Off Truck

New York State Police say the northbound lanes of the Thruway in Rockland County have reopened after being shut down for three hours when a construction vehicle hit an overpass while being hauled on a flatbed tractor-trailer.

Troopers on the Thruway detail say the excavator fell off the truck around 9 a.m. Wednesday after it hit the bridge carrying Hungry Hollow Road over Interstate 87 in the village of Chestnut Ridge.

The excavator landed on its side between the right and center lanes.

The highway's right lane reopened around 11:30 a.m. and the left and center lanes opened around noon between Exit 14A in Chestnut Ridge and Exit 14B near Monsey.

Troopers say no injuries have been reported.

The accident is being investigated.
