A judge has ordered that a woman who crashed a school bus carrying special-needs students and then was administered an overdose antidote should be kept in jail pending trial.
Lisa Byrd appeared in court in Newark on Wednesday. The 57-year-old is charged with child endangerment, driving while impaired, operating a school bus without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Essex County prosecutors say Byrd had an envelope of heroin on her at the time of last week's crash in Newark.
Video showed the bus slowly traveling through an intersection before hitting a tree. None of the 11 children aboard was injured.
Byrd's attorney argued during Wednesday's hearing that Byrd has diabetes and high blood pressure and should be released pending trial.
