A man who beat his 4-month-old son to death has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison.
Union County prosecutors say 38-year-old Michael Bell will have to serve about 21 years before he becomes eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Thursday.
The Plainfield man had pleaded guilty in March to aggravated manslaughter.
Prosecutors say police found Zion Bell suffering from serious injuries in his home in May 2013. The baby died from his injuries a few days later.
A subsequent investigation determined that Bell had struck his son multiple times on the head. He was arrested the day after the attack while on a bus bound for Iowa.
