Man Dies After Being Shot in Face in Front of Queens Bodega: Officials

A man was shot dead in front of a Queens bodega shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, police say.

The victim, a 39-year-old man identified as Fernando Gonzalez-Chavez of Bayside, Queens, was shot in the face and was unconscious as emergency crews arrived on 162nd Street and Northern Boulevard in Flushing, according to the NYPD.

He was pronounced dead a short time later at the scene, cops said.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.

"We need help to find out what happened," said Yanira Gonzalez, a cousin of the victim.

People who knew the victim believe Gonzalez was arguing with someone outside the deli before he was shot.

There is no description of a suspect. Detectives were seen in the area canvassing for surveillance video.
