A man imprisoned for killing a New York City police officer in 1981 has died.
A correction department spokesman tells the Daily News that 65-year-old Abdul Majid died at a hospital over the weekend.
He was serving 25-years-to-life at a maximum security prison in Romulus, New York. He was convicted with an accomplice of killing Officer John Scarangella and seriously injuring Officer Richard Rainey on a Queens street.
Authorities say Majid, whose name was Anthony Laborde before he converted to Islam, died of an inflammation of the gall bladder.
He and Black Liberation Army member James Dixon-York opened fire at the two officers who stopped their van to question them about a series of burglaries.
Rainey died last year. Dixon-York died in prison in 2009.
