Police arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the death of a transgender woman found strangled in her Queens apartment last month.
Cops charged Rasheen Everett with murder and tampering with physical evidence in the case of 29-year-old Amanda Gonzalez-Andujar, whose body was discovered face-down on the bed after a concerned acquaintance who hadn't heard from her got the landlord to open the door March 30.
Everett was returned to New York Wednesday from Las Vegas, where he was arrested Friday. Investigators believe he met the victim in a chat room. Police do not believe the fact that Amanda was transgender was a factor in her death.
Police said early in the investigation that there were signs of a possible struggle in the victim's first-floor apartment. The home appeared ransacked and a collection of Marilyn Monroe had been knocked off the wall.
Authorities say Everett was seen on surveillance video entering the apartment. His attorney's name was not immediately on record, and no phone was listed at the address provided by police.
