Service has been restored on the Long Island Railroad's West Hempstead branch, about an hour after a train struck a shopping cart and caused the line to shut down.
The train hit the cart east of the Malverne station at about 6:30 a.m., according to the MTA. Service was suspended for about an hour, and the LIRR brought int buses to ferry passengers to other stations.
Residual delays were expected on the line.
