Human Remains Found off NY Highway ID'd as Missing Long Island Man: Police

Human remains found in a wooded area off a highway on Long Island Monday afternoon have been identified as a missing 65-year-old man, police say.

A passerby found the skeletal remains near exit 15 of the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway and called 911, state police said. They appeared to have been there about six months.

Nassau County Police had an open missing persons case for the deceased man, identified as 65-year-old Steven Roque of Franklin Square. Family members were able to confirm his identity.

Police said Roque appears to have died of natural causes, pending an autopsy.
