The nation's former chief railroad regulator has been nominated to join the board of the state agency that runs New York City's subways and buses.
Officials in Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration said Thursday that the Democrat has selected Sarah Feinberg to fill a vacancy on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board.
Feinberg was the head of the Federal Railroad Administration from 2015 to 2017.
In that role, she pressed railroads to hasten the installation of automated speed controls and encouraged her agency to aggressively police safety violations.
Feinberg's appointment to the MTA board must be approved by the state Senate. She would replace real estate executive Scott Rechler, who is leaving the board.
A message seeking comment was left for Feinberg.
