Rush Hour Delays Expected on Some LIRR Trains

Delays on Ronkonkoma line following derailment

Long Island Rail Road service on the Ronkonkoma line is operating with 10 to 15 minute delays through Thursday evening following the derailment of a freight train earlier in the day.

The railroad says the derailment occurred at 9:10 a.m. Thursday east of Deer Park when a New York & Atlantic Railway train went off the tracks.

Service between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma was initially suspended between for an hour.  Though service through the early afternoon was running close to schedule, LIRR officials predict light delays through rush hour.  Later Thursday, there will be no service on the line and busses will replace trains on the Ronkonkoma branch, LIRR officials said.

Paul Victor, a spokesman for New York & Atlantic, says no one was injured in the derailment.

New York & Atlantic Railway leases the use of the tracks from the LIRR. It is a subsidiary of Anacostia & Pacific Company.
