Brooklyn Tech Grad Killed in Boston Fire: Officials

A college student from Brooklyn was killed in an early-morning fire near the Boston University campus Sunday, the school said.

Binland Lee, a Boston University senior who was studying marine science, died in the fire at 87 Linden St., which broke out at about 6:30 a.m., according to authorities in Boston.

Lee graduated from Broooklyn Technical High School in 2009, according to Boston University's news website BU Today

Lee lived in the three-story house off campus with 17 other people, including nine other Boston University students. Several were injured in the fire.

"This tragedy comes close on the heels of the Boston Marathon losses, which have so affected our community," BU President Robert A. Brown wrote in a letter Sunday evening. "We are working to marshal counseling and support resources for all those touched by the fire while continuing to meet the needs of others who have been affected by the Marathon bombings.”

One of Lee's professors, John Finnerty, told BU Today, "I was struck by her intelligence, her determination, her vitality, and her infectious smile."
