Wounded Man Expected to Survive After Suburban Bloodshed

A Long Island police commissioner says a man hospitalized with apparently self-inflicted stab wounds is expected to survive following violence that left a woman dead in her home.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Tim Sini tells Newsday that police are investigating the weekend incident in West Babylon as a homicide and attempted suicide.

The victim, with 32-year-old Sonja Williams, had two children -- ages 12 and 5 -- including one with the wounded man. Neither child was home at the time.

Sini says officers found Williams and 31-year-old Kerwyn Jaggernauth while responding to a 911 call.

The commissioner says it appears Williams was killed around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Sini said Jaggernauth could face charges. It's unclear if he has an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
