Woman, 22, Fatally Stabbed in Brooklyn Apartment Building: Police

Alwasi Tyson was charged with second-degree murder, four counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child and criminal possession of a weapon

A woman died after being stabbed multiple times by a friend's ex-husband in a Brooklyn apartment building Saturday morning, police said.

Toni Cox, 22, was visiting a friend who lives in the same building on Clarkson Avenue in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood, according to police.

The friend’s ex-husband, later identified as 35-year-old Alwasi Tyson, showed up and an argument took place, according to police. He stabbed Cox multiple times in the chest, police said.

Cox was taken to Kings County Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Tyson, a Brooklyn resident, was charged with second-degree murder, four counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child and criminal possession of a weapon.

The Associated Press reported that Tyson became angry that Cox started to date his ex-wife. The AP added that it wasn't clear whether Tyson had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.

The stabbing occurred in a building sometimes used by the city to house homeless families.
