Thousands Attend Wake for 2 Slain Firefighters

nearly 6,000 people paid respects to Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka at Webster Schroeder High School

The wake for two volunteer firefighters killed in a Christmas Eve ambush is continuing for a second day as hundreds of firefighters from the U.S. and Canada join family and friends in the Rochester area to pay their respects.
 
According to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, nearly 6,000 people paid respects to Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka at Webster Schroeder High School. Firefighters from around the state dressed in their uniforms waited in the snow.
 
Chiapperini and Kaczowka were fatally shot by William Spengler early Monday morning when they arrived at a scene of a fire Spengler had set at his lakeside home. Two other West Webster firefighters and a passing off-duty police officer were wounded.
 
Chiapperini's funeral is Sunday. Kaczowka's is Monday.
