Severe Storms Possible Saturday, But Rest of Holiday Weekend Is Gorgeous

What to Know

  • Widespread storms and showers are expected Saturday afternoon into the evening
  • Some of the storms could be severe, especially north and west of the city
  • The storms move out early Sunday, making way for a beautiful rest of the holiday weekend

The forecast is gorgeous for the Fourth of July, but the holiday weekend will start out with some unsettled weather that could include severe storms in parts of the tri-state area, meteorologists say.

Storm Team 4 says widespread showers and storms are expected to arrive Saturday afternoon after an uncomfortable, humid start to the day. Stronger storms could develop north and west of the city, potentially bringing heavy rain, damaging winds and frequent lightning.

The storms are expected to continue through the latter half of the day Saturday and into the evening. Any lingering showers are expected to move out early Sunday, giving way to partly sunny skies with temperatures in the high 80s but less humidity, Storm Team 4 says.

Highs are expected to remain in the 80s through the remainder of the holiday weekend, with sunny skies forecast for both Monday and Tuesday ahead of Macy's Fourth of July fireworks show Tuesday night.
