Toddler Locked in Car as Mom Shopped at Woodbury Outlets: Police

A 35-year-old New York City woman has been arrested, accused of leaving her toddler in a locked car while she shopped at the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets over the weekend, police say.

A passerby in the parking lot of the Central Valley shopping center saw the child sitting in a car seat in the locked car at about 4 p.m. Saturday and flagged nearby patrol officers, police said.

The windows in the car were partially open, and it was about 80 degrees.

Emergency responders removed the child from the car, and the mother, Sylvia Harden, returned to the vehicle about 15 minutes later. She told officers she had been shopping.

Harden was charged with child endangerment and released on $300 bail. She's due in court Wednesday.

It wasn't immediately clear whether she had an attorney.

The child was taken to Orange County Child Protective Services.
