A 13-year-old boy whohelped push a shopping cart that fell four stories

onto a woman has been sentenced to a therapy-oriented boarding school.

A Manhattan Family Court judge decided Tuesday the boy should spend six to 16 months in the program. She could later extend his stay.

The boy and a 12-year-old friend pleaded guilty to assault charges in juvenile court in the Oct. 30 stunt at a shopping mall. The woman was seriously hurt.

The 13-year-old later wrote her an apologetic letter, calling his actions stupid.

Officials say he had a history of problematic behavior, including trying to run down schoolmates on his bicycle. His mother says she's glad he's getting help.

The other boy is awaiting sentencing.
