A security guard revved his engine then hit a striking Verizon worker during a protest at a facility on Long Island, police said.
The guard was at the protest on Knickerbocker Avenue in Bohemia at about 7:15 a.m. when got into his car and revved his engine at the demonstrators, authorities said.
He then accelerated into their direction, striking one of the workers, police said.
The worker went to an area hospital, but did not sustain a serious injury.
The security guard, of West Babylon, was arrested for misdemeanor reckless endangerment, police said.
He was released on bail Thursday.
About 40,000 workers with Verizon's landline and cable businesses have been on strike since early April. The two unions that represent the workers accuse the telecom giant of outsourcing jobs and cutting benefits.

Verizon, meanwhile, has said that the unions have put workers in difficult financial positions by failing to consider a new contract. The talks between the two sides resumed this week.
