Runaway Cow Killed by Car on Long Island; Bull Chases Away Spectators, Police Say Yaphank

A cow that escaped a farm was struck and killed by a car in a rural section of eastern Long Island, police and witnesses said.

For a short time, a companion bull chased away onlookers before being corralled.

Leslie Clay, who lives near where the accident happened, says she saw a bull chasing the occupants of the car that struck the cow Friday night in Yaphank, Newsday reports. She let the fleeing man and his daughter into her home to call 911.

A Suffolk police spokeswoman says the animal was struck about 8 p.m.

Clay says the bull also chased a responding police officer before running off.

The bull was corralled by authorities.
