Robber Follows Woman Home From Shopping, Attacks Her in Driveway: Police

A man followed a woman home from a Long Island shopping mall, then attacked her in her own driveway, demanding her jewelry and threatening to stab her, according to police and town officials.

The 52-year-old East Hills resident had been shopping in Wheatley Plaza and had just gotten home around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when the suspect got out of a car and approached her as she unloaded packages from her own vehicle, police said.

The man grabbed her and demanded her jewelry. A struggle ensued and the suspect started punching the woman in the face, police said. The mayor's office said the man also threatened to stab her. Eventually the woman handed over her rings; the suspect also grabbed her pocketbook and ran to his car.

The woman followed him and jotted down part of his license plate, which she gave to police. Authorities say she was treated at a hospital for contusions and abrasions to her head.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
