PugGate Dog Owner Might Lose Her Job: Report

Chrissie Brodigan considers slander suit against The Post

The woman at the center of PugGate will find out today if she still has a job, according to a report.

Chrissie Brodigan, the VP for Online Media at Plum TV, already has been suspended for allegedly hurling anti-Semitic insults at Joel Witriol, the NYPD's first Hasidic officer, when Witriol confronted her last week, Gothamist reported.

At issue was Brodigan's pug, which she was trying to get off the L train because it was sick and puking. Brodigan claimed last week that the officer told her, "If you're going to act like a woman, I'm going to treat you like a woman," before handcuffing her, then punching her in the back and pinching her breasts.

But a witness named Viane Delgado turned the story upside down when Delgado told The New York Post last week that Brodigan lobbed the slurs at the officer.

"You f---ing Jew, you're not even human," Brodigan said to the officer, according to Delgado.

Brodigan is now contemplating a slander suit against the paper, and offered up this reaction for Gothamist readers:

"I believe that the Post fabricated their witness for salacious story-telling, I also believe that the NYPD could have planted her as a way to spin the story because I don't have a record and have never been in trouble with the law. In other words, the only way to discredit me would be to make something up ... To be absolutely clear: Even in the heat of the moment I did not use anti-Semitic remarks against the officer. I did say things like "screw you" and was sarcastic in asking for the tickets so I could go home. I did not even say the words "Jewish" or "Jew" or utter a single ethnic slur. And, to be even more clear, those words and statements (alleged in the Post) have NEVER crossed my lips. Not that day. And, not any other day in my life. Ever."

The bylined writers for the Post's original story were Reuven Fenton and Reuven Blau. Fenton told Gothamist that his colleague tracked down Delgado, but like Blau, Delgado has not been available for comment since dropping the initial dime.
