Former Nassau County Executive Clears First Hurdle in Bid to Get Old Job Back

Former Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi has cleared the first hurdle in his bid to get his old job back.

He declared victory in the Democratic primary Tuesday night, telling supporters in Glen Cove he received a phone call from challenger Adam Haber, a businessman and Roslyn School Board member, conceding the race.

Suozzi was beaten in 2009 by Republican Edward Mangano after serving two terms as county executive. Now he moves on to the general election against Mangano in November.

Suozzi called the upcoming race "a fight for our very future, a battle to preserve the suburban way of life in Nassau County."

In Suffolk County, three-time incumbent District Attorney Thomas Spota faced a Republican primary challenge from attorney Raymond Perini.

Spota was also running as a Democrat.

He won a court fight this summer over term limits. A state court ruled the DA's office is not subject to a county term limits law.
