Long Island Woman High on Painkillers Drove With Kids in Car: Cops

A 32-year-old Long Island woman who was arrested Tuesday night for driving under the influence of painkillers had her two kids in the car with her, police said.

Police say someone spotted Laura Cachell driving her 2000 Acura erratically in Westbury. Officers say they found Cachell intoxicated in front of a dollar store on Old Country Road. They searched her and allegedly found several pills, including Oxycodone, an opiate, and Carisoprodol, a muscle relaxant, in her bag.

Cachell's 8-year-old and 9-year-old daughters were in the car, police said. They were released to their grandfather at the scene.

Cachell was arrested on charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated, criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, and driving while ability impaired. She is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Hempstead.
