NY Attorney General: Head Shop Must Stop Selling ‘Misbranded Designer Drugs'

The New York state attorney general's office has levied a $52,000 fine against a Long Island shop that sells drug paraphernalia and ordered it to stop selling products that officials call "misbranded designer drugs."

Newsday reports Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said Wednesday that East Coast Psychedelics must halt sales of drug products that aren't in compliance with state labeling laws.

The head shop has stores in Commack and Oceanside.

Affected products include nitrous oxide and improperly labeled packages of the botanical substance kratom.

State officials say the unapproved substances are designed to mirror the effects of illegal drugs while remaining legal.

An attorney representing East Coast Psychedelics says the owner wasn't aware of the labelling laws when the case was brought four years ago and now only sells properly labeled kratom.
