NJ Transit Train Hits Car, Snarls Rush-Hour Commute

A New Jersey Transit train hit an empty car on Wednesday evening, cutting service on part of the Pascack Valley Line for more than an hour, the transit agency said.

The northbound train struck the unoccupied car near Railroad Avenue and Beech Street in Hackensack around 5:30 p.m.

None of the 300 or more passengers aboard the train were injured, NJ Transit said.

Service was suspended in both directions between Essex and Anderson streets shortly after 6 p.m., but service had resumed by 7:30 p.m. with delays.

Authorities haven't said why the unoccupied vehicle may have been on the track.
