A police sergeant was stabbed and another officer was assaulted as they tried to break up a large fight in Newark on Friday morning, authorities said.
Elizabeth Avenue from East Runyon to West Bigelow were roped off at 4:30 a.m. as police investigated the stabbing.
Police said the two officers were trying to break up the melee around 3 a.m. when they were attacked.
The two officers were taken to an area hospital in stable condition. They're expected to make a full recovery.
Authorities were able to take the person who stabbed the sergeant into custody.
It wasn't immediately known if police were looking for any other suspects.
