A New Jersey man who called 911 to report his wife's suicide has been charged in connection with her death, prosecutors said Saturday.

Patrick Mirrione, 79, of Parsippany, was charged with obstruction and tampering with physical evidence, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Mirrione called Friday afternoon to report the suicide of his wife, officials said. He told officers he found his wife in the garage with an apparent gunshot wound.

But, prosecutors said, during the investigation, Mirrione gave inconsistent statements about what he knew and how he participated. He's also accused of altering, concealing and/or moving items from the scene.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Mirrrione had an attorney.
