NJ Earthquake Leaves Few Trembling

It was more of a shiver than a quake.

Central New Jersey was struck Saturday by what officials called a very small earthquake. It caused no damage or injuries.

The 1.9-magnitude quake occurred at 7:13 a.m., the U.S. Geological Survey's national information center said. It hit in an area about 17 miles east/southeast of Trenton.

A small number of people in some towns in western Monmouth County and northern Ocean County said they felt the quake in their homes. But most residents were unaware of the tremor.

Experts say earthquakes in New Jersey are rare and usually small when they do occur.
