Man with Gun Nabbed after Painful Leap Onto Subway Tracks: NYPD

A Brooklyn man who police say fled while being questioned about using a disability MetroCard was nabbed when he jumped on the subway tracks and tossed aside a loaded handgun.

Officers watched Michael Latham, 32, walk through the high-wheel turnstile on the Livonia Avenue elevated subway platform on Saturday and asked to see his disability MetroCard. Latham showed them the card, but it bore the name and photo of a different person, they said.

Latham then pushed one of the officers, bolted for the end of the platform and jumped onto the tracks. He pulled a firearm from his waistband and threw it, the officers said.

Latham injured his right knee in the jump and was taken to Brookdale University Hospital after the officers pulled him off the tracks, police said. He was treated and released into police custody.

Latham was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence, theft of service, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.

There was no indication he had retained a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
