NY Man Cleared of Unlawful Surveillance Using Drone

A 50-year-old Hudson Valley man has been cleared of attempted unlawful surveillance in connection with using a drone-mounted camera to shoot photos and videos of a medical office building.

David Beesmer of Lake Katrine was found not guilty on Monday in Ulster Town Court. He was arrested by state police last July after taking photos and video footage of the new Mid-Hudson Medical Group building in Ulster by flying his remote-controlled drone outside the structure.

Beesmer testified that he knew his drone camera would not be able to see through the building's tinted windows. He said he brought his mother to a doctor's appointment at the building that day and while he was waiting for her flew his drone to take videos and photos of the facade of the structure.
