Military jets flying over the region caused an explosion-like boom over Queens and western Nassau County Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Two F-15 Eagle fighter jets flying over the area providing security for the United Nations meeting caused the boom, the FDNY tweeted.
Initial reports stated that the jets were F-22s, but the U.S. Air Force's Air Combat Command tweeted that it was not the case.
Residents reported hearing and feeling something similar to an explosion near JFK airport on social media.
The Oceanside Fire Department wrote on their Facebook page that they received a number of reports of an explosion in the area, but investigated and found nothing.
