Long Islander Charged with Boating While Intoxicated: Police

A Long Island man was charged early Sunday with boating while intoxicated, the second time he's faced the charge, police said.

Joseph Leon, 59, of Sayville, was stopped by marine officers while cruising along the Great South Bay at about 2:30 a.m. without navigation lights, Suffolk County police said. The stop occurred about a half-mile northeast of Cherry Cove.

Officers determined Leon was intoxicated and charged him, police said.

Leon was previously arrested on a charge of boating while intoxicated in June of 2011 after crashing his boat, police said.

It was unclear whether he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charge.
