Livery Drivers Want to Bring Licensed Guns to Work

A trade group has asked the TLC to let drivers who have permits bring their licensed weapons to work

The Taxi and Limousine Commission is expected to shoot down a proposal by livery cab drivers who argue they should be allowed to carry guns to protect themselves on the job.

A trade group has asked the TLC to let drivers who have permits bring their licensed weapons to work, according to the Daily News.

Many cabbies have been the victims of robberies; some have been killed. The group argues they have the right to defend themselves.

The TLC is expected to reject the proposal when it votes on Thursday.

"It is important for public safety and perception to disallow any weapons in the vehicle,” the TLC wrote in response to the proposal, according to the News.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly on Wednesday said he wasn't sure it was the right approach.
