New York state officials have announced the completion of a $1.3 million safety renovation and expansion of the Jones Beach bicycle path.
State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey says the changes include linking the 4-mile Wantagh State Parkway to a new path at Jones Beach.
A new bicycle storage plaza for 100 bicycles is under construction at a bath house at the beach.
The project also includes landscaping and the installation of ornamental fencing.
Plans are also in the works for informational kiosks
State officials say other than major highways, virtually every state road on Long Island features some accommodation for bicycling.
