Tractor-Trailer Crash Snarls Traffic on George Washington Bridge

Traffic was snarled on the George Washington Bridge's upper level for hours Friday afternoon after a tractor-trailer crash on the span's New Jersey-bound side.

The lanes heading to the Garden State were completely blocked after two trucks crashed shortly after noon. The traffic artery remained completely jammed for about two hours before two lanes were reopened intermittently.

Traffic cameras in the area showed heavy traffic in both directions at about 2 p.m., and first responders were still working at the scene.

Motorists were advised to take alternative routes.

The crash came just before a former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey official who pleaded guilty in the bridge lane-closing case took the stand in the trial of two former allies of Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

David Wildstein pleaded guilty last year to orchestrating traffic jams in 2013 to punish a Democratic mayor who didn't endorse Christie. Christie wasn't charged.
